Five morphological observations were made from looking at the unknown fossil specimen. See the list of the observations that were made. Figure 4 Fossil Cladogram was then redrawn into the lab journal and a prediction was made on the fossil placement on the cladogram based on the observations. Next, an explanation of the reasons for the prediction was then recorded in the lab notebook. The four gene file were then downloaded onto the computer by going to the website listed below.…
Procedure After obtaining a preserved frog, place the frog dorsal side up to examine its external anatomy. You should be able to locate the tympanum, eyes,, nares, and anus on the dorsal surface of the frog.…
The tiktaalik is the earliest living thing with a neck, meaning that it can turn its head and look around independently of its body. It also has a limb structure that is just like humans, horses, and everything else. This is a pure example of common descent. In evolutionary biology, a…
Overall, by using the fossil record created by finding dinosaurs similar to birds, Brusatte showed how dinosaurs underwent gradual evolution over a period of tens of millions of years to create the species we know today as…
Recently, scientists have discovered fossils of an extinct species of turtles that particularly have snouts as noses, similar to a pig. However, because of its snout, it was named Golden's bacon turtle, or Arvinachelys golden. Usually, turtles have one nasal passage in their skulls because of how fleshy their nostrils are. Arvinachelys golden was found by a team from Natural History Museum of Utah and discovered the fossil at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. In addition, this turtle also had a near completed forelimb, partial hindlimbs, and vertebrae from the neck and tail, unlike any other turtle ever recorded.…
Fossil record can be described as the collection of the remains of past life. Furthermore, theoretical evolution is considered theoretical because the process of natural selection in times before the development of science can never be fully or concretely proven; only theorized. Taxonomy would be explained as the branch of science regarding the classification of organisms. Paleontology is considered to be the greatest source of empirical knowledge in terms of understanding the history of life.…
Darwin also uses embryology to prove natural selection, because as an embryo almost all animals are similar, but as they develop they start to differ. Again this points to a common ancestor at some point in…
Usually these descendants are long deceased, as evolution continues through time. It was interesting in the case of the sea-coelacanth, that this fish, which was thought to be an ancient ancestor of four legged vertebrate such as humans, was still around and able to be examined in modern day. This is where the term “living fossil” originates, it is not that it is an actual living fossil, but it is a very close example to how an ancestral fish from millions of years ago appeared. It was intriguing to read how the coelacanth swam so differently from the way fish are known to swim.…
Evolution is how modern living organisms are related to ancient ones. Organisms have diversified and modified through ages and old one became extinct. According to Charles Darwin, all species have common ancestors. This means that, for instance, whales and dogs are related to each other by an old ancestor. Indeed, many organisms have common traits and characteristics, but this still doesn't mean that they are related.…
Fossils prove Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. This due to the fact that evolution is a ‘gradual process in which a species changes into a different and more complex form’ as can be see each bone gradually changes into a more complex and different form. In the first bone (Hyracotherium) the bone has appendages on its foot, this was in the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum period. This period was really wet with mud etc. and the temperature was rising so the ground would have hardened up.…
When the team studied Triceratops skulls' morphology and position in the Hell Creek Formation, they found that skulls showing only features of T. horridus were present only in the lower section(L3) of the Hell Creek Formation, while skulls exhibiting only T. prorsus features were present only in the upper(U3) section of the Hell Creek Formation. The skulls found in the middle(M3) is said to have similar features of both species. This location shows that the two species most likely lived in the same place at different times. Therefore, T. horridus and T. prorsus probably did not evolve via the process of cladogenesis rather anagenesis, and that it was not possible for them to denote two sexes of a single species. The fossil record shows that T. horridus probably evolved into T. prorsus over one to two million…

In the essay, “Evolution as Fact and Theory,” Stephen Gould defenses Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution over the beliefs of creationist on God creating all organisms in the world. To further his support, he states his three arguments which are observational evidence, the imperfection of nature, and transitions found in fossil records to demonstrate that even though evolution is just a theory, there are plentiful evidence of facts that supports it. The essay was not just about justifying the theory of evolution to the creationist but also to reject the ideas of blindfolded views on scientific creationism. Throughout the essay, Gould acknowledges many of the major perspectives of the scientific world to support the theory of evolution that…
1. In the documentary video of Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial, the basic conflict in the town of Dover, PA is that the school board of Dover High school intended to introduce the theory of Intelligence Design to the science class in the ninth grade, trying to break the exclusive mode of setting Darwin’s evolution theory as monopoly. Some residents, mainly the parents of the ninth grade students who insisted their beliefs on Darwin’s theory sued the school board for enforcing the teaching policies of including the intelligence design theory in the science classes. 2. The basic principles and origin of the theory of evolution by natural selection is that species arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations…
In Neil Shubins’ “Your Inner Fish: A Journey Into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body”, he takes the audience on the journey of the discovery and history of how different organisms and adaptations have converged to form a relationship between fish and tetrapods. Shubins first relates the evolutionary fact that humans and other forms of “tetrapods’ major body systems have developed from fish and sharks” (20), through his time on the field as a paleontologist. He describes his multiple experiences of planning, preparing, excavating, and analyzing not only the fossils found by his team, but also where and when in the rock these artifacts were found. His research and expenditures led to discoveries of bones and fossils that he would…
