Communication and teamwork is vital in a successful dental office because without good communication or teamwork things could fall apart very easily. All staff at both offices work extremely well together, office A has a lot more staff working at a time so people will pick up the slack when things start running behind; office B does not have enough staff to cover other people but because the receptionist is also a dental assistant so she can cover the DA in the operatory or help when needed. Office A talks to nice to one another but it was strictly work related, the DA was only a temp at this office and did not seem very fond of working there; the dentist seemed to be aware. Office B treats one another like family, and while they are working…

The best interpretation of a dental hygienist that I can conceive is a professional whose main job is to teach their clients the essential oral hygiene skills and provide dental care in order for the client to maintain their overall oral health. Among the various responsibilities performed for the client to insure their health and safety includes making sure, we, as dental hygienists first do not harm to the patient by contaminating with pathogens that could have easily been disposed of by simply following the standard rules of infection control. As stated by Ester Wilkins “Dental healthcare personnel have a professional obligation to serve all patients with comprehensive oral care, including patients with known or unknown communicable diseases.…

Periodontal debridement is a procedure to remove deposits, such as calculus, from the tooth. This is important because when there are deposits on the teeth, the dentist or hygienist cannot thoroughly or effectively assess the patient for decay, infections, or disease. Also, calculus can harbor harmful bacteria that can cause disease and it also irritates the gingiva. There are many methods of removal of these deposits to provide relief and treatment for a patient. Acquired pellicle is an acellular, bacteria-free film that is composed of salivary glycoproteins.…

I knew that you needed good communication skills, but didn’t realize that it was the key to a successful day at the dental office. Communication skills are essential to all dental professionals. I read this letter to a R.D.H from another hygienist asking what are some things she can do to better improve in communication with her patients and everyone in the office. What the R.D.H wrote back was very detailed and opened my eyes to what I should expect to do when and if I become a dental hygienist. It all starts from the very beginning when you grab a patient from the waiting room.…

Introduction to the Dental Hygiene profession has been a complete and enjoyable class that set the core all the clinical documentation and protocol to follow here at Fortis college. As part of this class the instructor had create a variety of interactive assignments where students get to experience what it feels when having a real patient in front of them. Such was the clinic observation activity where we, the lower clinic class, had the opportunity to observe how students of a higher class were handling a full clinic section with the help of their high qualified instructors. One of the expectations I had for this activity was that I would be able to see the process of care in action, since the clinician brings the patient to the operatory…
