Pericles
After the Peloponnesian war there were many fallen angels that did not make it back home. In appreciation of their courage and life risking actions the soldiers were given a ritual. The ritual was given to the public by the son of Xanthippus, who was also the Athenian leader, Pericles who gave a speech. The speech was given to express values of democracy.
The text states “Three days before the ceremony, the bones of the dead are laid out in a tent which has been erected; and their friends bring to their relatives such offerings as they please. There were citizens who were once killed or locked up for speaking their opinions. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed for standing up for equality for African American’s. He never once threatened anyones life, nor inflicted violence, but was still murdered. He stood to have the same respect and privileges as Caucasians. To this present day the president of the United States of America has the right to have a citizen killed if they are believed to be a terrorist. The administration once allowed the power for the president to order an assassination of any citizen that is considered allied with terrorists. There people are usually from nations of Iran, Nigeria, Syria. This goes to show there is racism and unfair treatment, which supports the fact of not being free within the government. A lot of people automatically assume an Arabic wearing a thawb is a terrorist, and that is how the government treats them whether it is purposely or accidentally. The government may be doing this for safety reasons, but that does not justify it as being right. Another reason why the government is not free, is because the government can invade people's privacy. The president is now able to order warrantless surveillance, companies can be forced to hand over information on citizens' communication records, who they associate themselves with, and even finance information. The searches can even search business documents, all the way down to library record. The
