This career is very time consuming most dancers spend up to 8 hours a day in the studio. Starting from a young age girls begin taking classes as early as 4 old. This process to stardom is not as glamorous as celebrities make it out to be. Directors and choreographers push these artists to their limits through intense fitness training and other activities. These performers are constantly building off of feedback from their peers and instructors. As David Bayle’s said, “Today, more than it was however many years ago, art is hard because you have to keep after it so consistently.” This explains that you work for your craft and can’t stop you must stay at it and improve your skills so you can get better. Many dancers’ bodies have wear and tear, meaning that since they’ve been put to work they don’t work properly and are more susceptible to injury. Common injuries that dancers face are shin splints, torn ligaments, broken bones, and sprains. This can be caused by overworked muscles and bones making them weak. Dancing is a very demanding sport it requires you to have extreme flexibility, balance, power, and endurance. This puts tremendous stress on the body, especially on ballet dancers because this style of dance is of unnatural movements that are particularly technical and complicated. As the Children’s Hospital of Colorado states, “To execute technical movements, the body takes on positions that place a lot of stress on bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments, which can lead to high injury rates.” After so many years of this high intensity exercise your body will indefinitely have a breaking point, literally.
