Performance Improvement Plan

This is in response to the recent survey done at College Community Hospital (CCH) in which staff’s main cause of dissatisfaction concern was the slow turn-around of lab test. As an assistant administrator to CCH, I am proposing to find solution to this problem. A performance improvement (PI) project is initiated in order to address this problem. Shaw and Carter (2015) have stated that “the overarching reason for change in healthcare organizations today is the need to improve the quality of care while controlling the cost of the services” (p. 465). That being said, a slow turn-around time (TAT) of lab tests cause not only dissatisfaction from staff, but also a loss of revenue for the facility due to decrease in patient volume. Communication Timeline:
1. Immediately: All laboratory staff will be verbally informed of our new efforts to increase lab result TAT by the Team Leader and laboratory representatives. Training will follow and be available on audio – video conferencing.
2. One week observation on the logistics and turn-around time of lab tests.
3. After the observation week, all team members will have a quality meeting on how to improve TAT.
4. One week is allotted for the training and initial implementation of the change.
5. Team meeting to assess the effectiveness of the change.
6. Team leader will submit final report to the Quality Council and Administrators for approval.
7. Final Report will be disseminated to supervisors and to each department bulletins for every staff to read.
8. All laboratory staff will receive training regarding the new procedure.
