Improperly consuming harsh supplements have fatal consequences that our athletes are not aware of. Drugs like steroids and other forms of doping have a negative effect on long term health. Because these supplements are not pharmaceutically controlled, they have become overrated and abused. After taking these supplements over a long period of time your body begins to rely and crave on these drugs. Players are convinced that PED’s are helping their fame and fortune, but in reality, they are abusing their strong, healthy bodies. The overuse of these drugs has become common in the sports world. A player consuming PED’s is not only risking their health; they are risking their future opportunities. If a high school athlete was caught practicing the use of illegal drugs any scholarships awarded to them for athletics would be destroyed and their chance of making it into the big leagues would be ruined. As a professional athlete it is very important to keep a good reputation due to fans and the younger generation. PED’s are sending a wrong message to children. People influenced by their favorite athlete emulate their style of play, pursue similar actions, and act like them because they wish to be as successful as them. If someone was to see their idol, the person they look up to, consuming these drugs then they would think it was okay, they would think that it is a part of what they do. The younger generation becomes convinced that if they want to be like the top elite athletes they have to consume these drugs; that to be the best they have to start shooting up, considering that’s what everyone else does. It becomes a trend. Younger athletes suppose that steroids used by their role model gives them permission to use them, they think it’s natural; that it is simply part of what you do to be a top athlete. People need to come to the realization on how much they influence the younger generation. The younger generation is the future to the sports world. If the use and abuse of PED’s continues it will soon be used by the majority of our younger athletes and have a bigger impact on sports. PED’s will end up moving like a virus; expanding through the younger
