Performance Activity 43: The use of technology impacts student learning by how learning can be enhanced. Dr. Ruben Puentedura, developer of the SAMR Model, is types of exposure and enhancements of technology integration. The four types are: substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition. For example, Ms. Boerema uses the projector to project notes to write on the board for students, which this is substitution. The impact on student learning does not negatively impact their learning, but it does impact student learning positively by having clear notes on the whiteboard. Other times, students use laptop and computers to type up written assignments, which is another form of substitution. For my full lesson, I used the projector to project the word template to write on the whiteboard. Puentedura’s augmentation type of technology integration is the next type, with a slight direct tool, such as playing a digital video. What most teachers and aides don’t want to do, but can happen, is assist students too much, to the point students highly depend on teacher and aide assistance. During my full lesson, I would walk around to each cooperative learning group and ask questions to observe the understanding of the lesson. I assisted the students by asking how and why questions about the characters and the awards given.
