The leader of France is Francois Hollande. The French government is known as the French Republic and it is ruled by the Constitution of the French Republic of 1958. The rights held trace all the way back to the French Revolution and WWII. Historically, the French government has been centralized, but in recent years, the local government has gained more power. The head of state is the president and they are elected every 5 years by a majority vote in a general election. There are two votes or more until a clear majority vote is obtained. There are two major parties that usually dominate in the second vote, the Union for Popular Movement and the Socialist Party. The president has a few roles once elected. They appoint the Prime Minister, appoint military commanders, and appoint Senior Civil Servants. The Prime Minister then appoints the government, guides government policy, and is the main driver of political reform. He also introduces legislature. France also has the parliament which is a two house system. The National Assembly is the lower house and is comprised of 577 members that serve 5 year terms. The Senate is the upper house and has 331 seats that serve 6 year terms. A president of the senate is then elected who is second in line to presidency. Germany possesses a republic with a Parliamentary Democracy. They have a two house system. The government of Germany is called the Bundesregierung. The federal Parliament is the Bundestag. They are made up of representatives elected by the German people. They are responsible for drafting legislation, approving the budget, and voting on the deployment of the German Army. Elections take place every four years through a proportional representation. The second chamber of Parliament is the Bundesrat. They represent the states at a national level. They are a part of creating and approving legislation. The Federal president is the Bundesprasident. He is elected by the Bundesversammlung which is made up of representatives from the Bundestag and state parliaments. They are elected for 5 year terms. The Chancellor is then elected by the president and is the president of government. The leaders of Germany are Joachim Gauck who is president and the Chancellor is Angela Merkel. One of the recent involvements of Hollande has been his attempt to speak out against anti-Semitism, or the hatred of Jews. Not only is he speaking out against hatred of Jews but against all racial crimes and conflicts. His course of action is to make tougher laws to fight against the hate crimes (French). Germany has been struggling recently with refugees coming into their country. They are lined up at Berlin trying to get a refugee permit. Angela Merkel and Gauk must make a decision
