In particular the movie explains and looks at the advances of consumerism and capitalism and imagines a world where everyone is encouraged to spend money and consume goods while also on the other hand being actively discouraged from taking any of the less materialistic pleasures of life and to avoid meditation on any meaning on life other than just blind consumption. Imagine living in a world where you can’t have any sort of interests, free will. Yes everything is perfect, everybody is having a role and everybody has their place but what is the point if you can’t make your own decision? They cannot make decisions in this (Bernard’s) world, they pretty much do what they have to do and even though everybody is extremely happy, yet genuine happiness is out of question and is not achievable because they’re being conditioned to be like that and feel like that but in the end they’re still being controlled in an oligarchic system because they don’t know any better of themselves because they can’t think for
