Perdurantist Analysis

If one adopts the perdurantist position, the possibility of Jennifer having “two moments of personal time overlap at one moment of external time,” is plausable (Hunter). Since a “perdurantist is someone who thinks that objects only have a temporal part present at each moment of an interval of time,” this idea would enable the younger Jennifer to exist simulataneously with the older Jennifer. Moreover, it would also permit Jennifer to retain her personal identity.

However, this scenario seems to be based more on personal time, rather than external time. Consequently, how does external time exist in this type of state? More specifically, does any sense of continuous external time and space exist for a perdurantist? Or can objects and people

In ‘Personal Identity’, Derek Parfit presented the idea that being destroyed and replicated is just as good as ordinary survival. This essay will focus on Parfit’s argument of the Branch Line Case and will examine why personal identity matters, a critical perspective and will discuss an objection and respond to the empty question. Parfit argued that being replicated then destroyed resulted in the same outcome as ordinary survival. From the analogy of the Branch Line case, a human body was scanned and then replicated. After the process of replication, an implication occurred in the original body which resulted in a quick fatality.…

Reading the title, Insert Flap “A” and Throw Away, of Perelman’s essay, I was immediately reminded of a tiny telescope model my younger brother purchased. which I was instructed to help him construct, along with the frustration and anger it brought me. The fate of the telescope model was as described in Perelman’s title, the trash. Through the title, the author creates a connection between the reader and himself, emphasizing that he is only human, therefore he can only follow such meaningless directions so closely. Eager to learn the outcome of this similar situation that he was put through, I was prompted to read his essay.…

According to the document, John brown was not a misguided fanatic but was a man of integrity and honor who stood up and fought for those who lived in the rebel states who were subjected to be slaves by force where their basic human rights were taken away and were treated in inhumane ways. For instance, in Document A John Brown states that his soul purpose was to partake in liberating the slaves not murdering others but he doesn't admit that what he did was wrong but said that he did what needed to be done in order to help end slavery at the time even if it cost his life since he knows that god would be on his side for his righteous actions. Do you think it's beneficial living in a place where dangerous things happen? In the reading “Staying Put,” Scott Russell Sanders talks about him experiencing a farm family being destroyed by nature several times. Three tornadoes struck their home several times but decided to stay and rebuild their home. He questioned himself why this family never tried to move to a non-hazardous area. However, he realized that they had everything they needed around; for example, they had their relatives nearby, had helpful friends, and had everything within a short drive.…

Although Coates has mentioned numerous times about how he feels racism is present back then and still found today, he fails to address the other side of racism, that is reverse racism on the majority group of Caucasian people. Alghoutht is is not mentioned or talked about much, possibly due to the fact that it is not as extreme level of severity, it can be found in today’s society. It should be discussed in conjunction with black racists to provide adequate and throughout comparison of the two racism that affect the races in general. This may seem overbearing from the outside looking in, but by managing my time properly I can easily accomplish these things. I am a full time police officer, work part time as an armed security guard, coach baseball in a local youth league, and taking two classes at once while enrolled with Bethel University. This can appears to be a lot on one person, however by using effective time management skills it is very manageable.…

Refusing to “Stay Put” In the passage, “Staying Put,” Scott Russell Sanders encourages people to “stay put”: commit to the given place and stay here during a long time. For this reason, the benefits of “staying put” in a place are that people can make a remarkable devotion to one place, learn more and go deeper about this ground, and “staying put” does not prevent people from recognizing and honoring the diversity of other places, cultures, and ways. However, from my point of view, staying in one place, especially the dangerous ground , is the unwise way to invest so much of lives, go deeper in the place, and recognize the diversity of other cultures and places. First of all, Sanders puts out the example of a farm family, the Millers,…

In American author, Michael Pollan’s essay “Why bother?” he presents the issue of climate change and the very reason why it is still a problem after so many years, because of people who believe “why bother.” “Why bother” refers to the mental reality of believing that one individual can’t make any form of difference for an issue. Now while this idea is not entirely false I do feel it has a rather large hole in it.…
