With every new experience, a new one is always discovered. Lowell, Massachusetts, a city that is full of history, as well as beautiful nature. Lowell is full of parks, hiking trails, esplanades, and best of all the Lowell Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is located right near the bridge going from North campus to East Campus, I walk past the walkway almost every day and never really thought much about the view all that much. Going on a nature walk was a very interesting. I’ve never really been a nature kind of guy, but I still discovered new things from my walk. Each time a tour of nature is taken a new discovery is made. These new discoveries are made because people are actually willing to take time out of their to make viewing nature their goal.

Whether they decide to go on the Riverwalk or not, although I do believe that in order to form the most accurate opinion of the walk that you must view the river from the closest place accessible to you. Was I able to completely step out of consumer model of “tourism”? I most likely was not, but that does not mean my experience was not genuine. In Percy’s essay, he talks about an American couple visiting Mexico that decide take a trip to Mexico City in hopes of finding ‘it’. Along the way the couple gets lost and accidentally end up at an Indian Village during a religious festival. “The couple know at once that this is it.” (302) Although the village was not what they were originally looking for, it ended up filling the void of what the couple was hoping to find with their discovery. My experience may be a little different from the couple Percy describes, but I would still consider my walk on the Riverwalk trail to be ‘it’ being able to see into the water more clearly and just having a closer view is what I believe Percy wants people to do. Walker Percy would not want me to have the same view of Merrimack River as everyone else does, but for me to branch off and find a way to make my view personal to me is what I believe he tries to get
