In both the book and movie, Percy and his friends travel to Las Vegas and are trapped in the Lotus Casino because they ate a lotus flower, which makes you hallucinate and lose track of time. When they come to their senses, they try to escape so they can finish their mission. In the book, they hop on an illegal animal haul truck to their next destination whereas in the movie, they steal a cool, expensive car and escape. One of the big differences within the book verses the movie is pearls. Not knowing where to go, Percy and his companions use the pearls in the movie to figure out where they need to go next. On the other hand, in the book the pearls don’t appear until towards the end of the book to help them through the underworld. It isn’t too easy for a newly recognized demi-god to go into multiple battles without practice, but he has Annabeth and Grover to help him through it. One of the first battles on their long journey is with Medusa. In the book, they battle Medusa because she wants to kill them for herself in the same way as the movie. However, in the book after they dissect Medusa's head from her body, they ship it to the gods in Olympus to give them a good scare differ from the movie because they carry the head along with them through the mission and they use her head to defeat the Hydra, which only appears in the second movie. The biggest difference is Ares. In the book, Ares is considered the bad guy and battles with Percy. However, we only see Ares when Percy goes to Olympus and there is a meeting with the gods. The battle between Percy and Ares was a big part of the book because Percy accuses the god of stealing the lightning bolt, on the contrary he finds out Luke stole it. This upsets the god so much, that he sets a wild boar on Percy. Lastly, the fight between Luke Castellan and Percy over the lightning bolt. In the movie, Luke and Percy fight for the possession of Zeus’ Master Bolt, and they use it on each other. Unlike the book, Luke never fights with Percy with the lighting bolt, he gets a python to bite Percy. Books and Movies seem to always have differences, some more than others,
