I question Percy’s decision to go back to school after the summer ended, instead of staying at camp. Although it is understandable that Percy wanted to see his mom after an entire summer of not seeing her, he would have been a lot safer at camp, he could continue his hero training, and he wouldn’t have to worry about getting bad grades or bullies at whatever school he goes to. Clarisse was offered a quest to search for the Golden Fleece, which Percy discovered the location of, and save the camp with it. Clarisse is an excellent warrior and fighter; however, she is not wise in planning or strategizing, both of which are very important for such a complex quest. Percy was also the one who discovered where the Golden Fleece was, and that it could save the camp; so accepting the quest in place of him is not intelligent. She’d impaled it through the back leg with a celestial bronze spear” (Riordan 44). Clarisse is not very smart however, and this could easily have caused major problems for her, if she would not have found Percy and his friends along the way. When she initially discovers the Golden Fleece, she charges in for it and is quickly caught by its guarder, Polyphemus the Cyclops, and is only saved when Percy and Annabeth arrive. Percy received a telepathic message from his friend Grover telling Percy the whereabouts of the fleece and how to save him. It only made sense for Percy to have the quest, but Tantalus, the camp activities director, had a
