“A shower of arrows whistled over our heads as we freefell towards the ocean” (Riordan 133). Percy Jackson and his friends narrowly escape being killed while hitching a ride on an enchanted cruise ship, but thanks to help from one of their camp half-blood friends and help from an Olympic God, they get back on track to saving their friend and camp. The Sea of Monsters is an exciting novel about Percy Jackson and his friends going on a quest to save their friend Grover from a Cyclops, and find the Golden Fleece to restore the magical barrier that protects camp half-blood from monsters. The group requires lots of help along the way, like from another camp half-blood camper who they never dreamed of working with and from multiple Olympic Gods. …show more content…
I question Percy’s decision to go back to school after the summer ended, instead of staying at camp. Although it is understandable that Percy wanted to see his mom after an entire summer of not seeing her, he would have been a lot safer at camp, he could continue his hero training, and he wouldn’t have to worry about getting bad grades or bullies at whatever school he goes to. At the end of the book The Lightning Thief, Percy decides to go home after summer ends to see his mother, and to go to school. Percy did spend an entire summer away from his mother and home, which must have made him very eager to see his mom again. Growing up his mom always protected him and did little things to make him feel better; however, when he leaves Camp Half-Blood, monsters can attack him, because the magical barrier …show more content…
Clarisse was offered a quest to search for the Golden Fleece, which Percy discovered the location of, and save the camp with it. Clarisse is an excellent warrior and fighter; however, she is not wise in planning or strategizing, both of which are very important for such a complex quest. Percy was also the one who discovered where the Golden Fleece was, and that it could save the camp; so accepting the quest in place of him is not intelligent. Clarisse is the daughter of the war god Ares, so she is very trenchant and can fight her way out of most situations with brute strength and weaponry. This can be seen from when she fights against a huge metal bull, and defeats it: “Clarisse had taken care of Bad Cow Number Two. She’d impaled it through the back leg with a celestial bronze spear” (Riordan 44). Clarisse is not very smart however, and this could easily have caused major problems for her, if she would not have found Percy and his friends along the way. When she initially discovers the Golden Fleece, she charges in for it and is quickly caught by its guarder, Polyphemus the Cyclops, and is only saved when Percy and Annabeth arrive. Percy received a telepathic message from his friend Grover telling Percy the whereabouts of the fleece and how to save him. It only made sense for Percy to have the quest, but Tantalus, the camp activities director, had a

As we know Clarisse is still very young, she may not have experienced everything this negative world has to give yet, like Mildred might of. Clarisse is still pure and innocent; she is described “Her face was slender and milk-white, and in it was a kind of gentle hunger that touched over everything with tireless curiosity. It was a look, almost of pale surprise” (3). Constantly she is compared to something pale or “milk-white” (3); As that is the color of purity and innocence.…

In most stories that include heroes and adventures, there’s a hero’s journey involved. There are many important stages to show a change in lifestyle, create suspense, and introduce and grow attachment to other characters. Among these stages, there are some that more significantly impact the overall story. In The Hobbit, the most important part of the hero’s journey is stage 6; when the hero encounters tests and allies. This is because the tests and allies resulted in Bilbo becoming more respected, clever, and brave.…

The author’s purpose for writing this novel was simply to entertain. The genre is fantasy, which shows that it is to entertain. If the author was trying to inform or persuade the reader of something, he or she would most likely use a genre of nonfiction, because then the author would be able to provide evidence. Another reason that the author wrote this book was because the series prior to The Lost Hero, Percy Jackson, was very popular and liked. Making this series satisfied many people because many people wanted to find out what happened next to Percy Jackson and his friends.…

The Epic Poem, “The Odyssey”, written by Homer, shows when the journey is more important than the destination in several different places. One example that shows this in the text is in the section, “Sailing From Troy”. In this section, Homer relates through his words of how Odysseus and his men are blown by the winds to Ismarus, on the coast of Cicones. He writes that Odysseus and his men “stormed that place and killed the men who fought(Homer 44). They proceed to plunder the place and divide the loot between themselves.…
