Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon and hero to mankind. The main protagonist to the Percy Jackson series written by Rick Riordan. Percy is a vulnerable middle-schooler who overcomes his mother’s death, while also continuing to rescue her from it. As well as, being the character who has enough courage to put people first, despite the risk of death. Are these heroic qualities represented in the book by Percy Jackson, used by Perseus, the Grecian hero? To put it lightly, yes. Riordan, uses Perseus to develop Percy Jackson, but physically separates him from the original hero. By physically separating him, Riordan places Percy in a modern Judeo-Christian setting to develop Percy’s identity from the perspective of a sixth grader. The perspective change …show more content…
He believes he is a loser, a person who can’t manage to last long in school without getting in trouble. Percy eventually realizes his purpose in life, when he learns he is a half-blood or demigod. And the son of Poseidon, and Sally Jackson, his mother, who is mortal. He travels to Camp Half-Blood in New York, with his mother and best friend, Grover, a satyr disguised as a crippled middle schooler. Before reaching the camp, a Minotaur crushes Percy’s mother, transporting her to the Underworld. This causes Percy to get intensely mad, causing him to lash out and ultimately defeat the Minotaur. At this camp, he meets other godly, half-blood offspring. The camp’s purpose is to help half-bloods prepare for battle, have fun and is a safe place away from monsters who want to attack half-bloods. Percy learns of his father and that Zeus’ master bolt (allows him to create lightning) was stolen. Zeus believes Poseidon to be the reason it was stolen and Percy to be the culprit. Percy must discover his true identity, as the son of Poseidon, and a courageous hero along his quest to retrieve Zeus’ master bolt. Grover and Annabeth, daughter of Athena, help Percy on his quest to retrieve the bolt, stopping to battle monsters like Medusa. They travel across America, hoping to get to the Underworld, get the master bold and save Percy’s mother. They eventually stop in Los Angeles, the current path to the Underworld—through Dead On Arrival (DOA) Recording Studios. Percy travels through the Underworld to see if Hades has Zeus’ master bolt, he doesn’t—while he’s missing his symbol of power: the helm of darkness. He accuses Percy of stealing both things, and that Poseidon is power-hungry. Magically, the master bolt appears in Percy’s bag, making him look guilty, but Percy denies ever having it.
