Have you ever really liked a book and watched the movie, only to find out that the book is way better? In the book, "Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief" the book has a lot more details and backstory. There are a lot of things that can be confusing in the movie, if you haven't read the book. It is important that you read this essay because it will inspire you to read the book before watching the movie. Comparing the movie to the book, you will find some minor and major similarities and differences. When looking at the characters, plot and conflict.

By comparing the book to the movie, it becomes clear that the characters are both similar and different. The most obvious difference between the book and the movie is that in the book they are twelve and in the movie they are sixteen.(Riordan 1), (Columbus) This is a big difference mainly because in the book they are kids but in the movie they are teenagers, so they are expected to act their age. One similarity is when Percy's mom gets taken away and Percy has to find the lightning bolt in order to get her back. This conflict is very important for the story because it is what makes them go on the long quest to find the lightning bolt. Another similarity is that in both the movie and the book they are accused of stealing the lightning bolt by Zesus. One difference is that in the book Percy has no control over his powers, at first.(Riordan 91) However in the movie he knows how to use his powers quite well. (Columbus)This makes for more exciting scenes in the movie. In the movie Hades is seen as the one trying to use the bolt to overthrow the gods, but actually in the book he dislikes the other gods, but makes no attempt to overthrow
