I know that I wouldn’t have ever done it if I wasn’t given this assignment. Some students, such as myself become socially anxious, keeping us away from meetings with professors despite that these meetings are conventionally exceedingly informative and helpful. In the short term, it is beneficial to connect with faculty due to the possibility that one may need assistance in the class that they are teaching, they, more than anyone else, can provide help. In the long term, I presume that networking and building connections are important in practically all professions, whether it be to assist in finding employment or simply trying to understand how to become established in the specific field. Before the actual meeting, I was a little embarrassed and nervous to ask my professor my questions, however, while the meeting was taking place I found my experience to be relaxed and informative. I found her answers to be thoroughly interesting and I felt like I gained an entirely different perspective. I’ve come to apprehend that as students were nearly inclined to view professors as if they are only professors and not real people. I was interested in this seeing that I was enabled to possess an insight into who my professor actually is, outside of a classroom setting. Based on my experience I’ve obtained the ability to comprehend why students who connect with faculty obtain a higher probability to graduate. I surmise that a vast amount students let their fear of embarrassment and general anxiety restrain them from getting the help that they need. Moreover, if a student is able to witness a professor who is passionate and content in their line of work, it can inspire a student to graduate and ascertain their own
