Percussion Band Analysis

I do not know how you have felt about this situation, but the state of affairs in terms of percussion has been tormenting my thoughts for the past several months. As Tyler and Patrick are graduating, and rumors of Harley, Ana, and Chase not participating in the program circulate, it is evident that we are going to have a shortage of percussionists in the marching band when we want to further expand the roster. Because of this, I do not feel comfortable in influencing your decision of my placement in the percussion section of the 2018-19 WHS Marching Cadets. I learned a lot from you and B.T.G. throughout my time both in high school and in Woodruff, so I feel I can optimally perform where you feel I am most needed. You know my strengths and weaknesses, so I feel that I can trust you to make the decision that would have the utmost benefits for the percussion section. …show more content…

Playing marimba is not a blind practice for me; I have been practicing playing marimba, one such way being Rocket Science, in which I played one of the marimba parts when the percussion ensemble played it in class when we broke off into chamber groups after Concert Fest. Playing marimba would also prepare me for future endeavors, for music outside of high school. I would like to join some ensemble outside of WHS, whether it be Region Band, Saints Percussion, or otherwise; I also want to do music in some form in college; learning and becoming proficient on marimba would be a good start to achieving both of these

    a. As I observed Country Band March, I recognized that the arrangement of the march is relatively a five-part sectional form that brings back the opening march theme in diverse appearances, rather than what you would customarily find in a true march structure. Two groundbreaking and useful methods used by Ives were the high intricate webbing of tunes, which would generate the impression of an amateur band’s performance abilities by having musicians play out of tune, prearranged bad entrances, and hit incorrect notes; and also the way he employs polytonality and polyrhythms, which would occur when the tunes would collide and intersect. b. From my perspective, I believe that this composition has a more “accessible” sound when compared…

Marching Band Officer Essay I am interested in becoming a Drill Tech Captain or Brass Captain for the 2018-2019 Marching Band season. Never before have I participated in an activity with such structure, passion, pride, and strong relationships between members. As a freshman, I was inspired by professional leaders of the band and how they were not only dignified while on the field, but enthusiastic and welcoming as well. I would love to be a leader in Marching Band so that I may positively contribute to the transference of the marching band drill and music from paper…

This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…
