The war of 1955, has many names, but know as the Vietnam war to Americans. When thinking of a veteran of current time we think heroic men and woman that have sacrificed them selves to fight for our freedom. In 1975 this was not the case, when all the Vietnam vervains came home, they were welcomed fists instead of open arms. There are many stories of veterans that would shock people today. “This had to have been hard and whats even worse is what his own family reacted. “In about a week I checked in with the rest of my family, and I swear it was as if I had been down the street buying a loaf of bread. They were very casual about were I had been.” The impression of the war was extremely over kill, nobody knew what it was like unless you were over there fighting yourself. A man named Terry Tople came injured, this was his welcome home. “I came out on a stretcher at Travis Air Force Base in California, and I got stuff thrown at me, rotten eggs, tomatoes. All of us coming off that airplane were wounded, and they were throwing stuff at us. I’ve told that to people around here and they just can’t believe it.” Tople also said, “When we came home we were the enemy, I think. I felt like we were the enemy. That really hurt.” This was the shocking reaction of our county. The Vietnam war was crude and unforgiving. Many people risked their lives for this country and many died, but whoever came home did not like the outcome of another war at home.
