Perception is the process of recognizing and interpreting of sensory information. Perception plays an important role in touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing affects how we react to the world and interpret events around us. Perception is well connected to psychology, which a scientific study of overt behavior and overt mental. The roles of psychology are to understand, describe, predict, and control behavior. Psychologists use the scientific method to conduct their research. The scientific method is a standardized way of making observations, gathering data, forming theories, testing predictions, and interpreting results. Researchers make observations in order to describe and measure behavior. After observing certain events repeatedly, researchers come up with a theory that explains these observations. Researchers develop theory after they have collected a lot of evidence and made sure their research results can be reproduced by others.
The four main goals of psychology are to describe, explain, predict and control the behavior and mental processes of others.
