Perception Is The Constitution Of The World Before You

Decent Essays
Perception is the constitution of the world before you, as stated in Chapter 3 notes. Your world, is what you make it and that goes for everyone. For example, there are two people standing side to side to each other on a lake, they may see the same thing but they are not seeing the same thing. One may like nature more, so they are taking a big breath and enjoying the view while the other one is just looking but not enjoying what they are looking at. What ones interpretation is different than what another one does and that is why no one's perception is the same. It is impossible for anyone to absorb all the same data, one will see something else or seeing something else differently than the next guy. Perception ties right into communication

Thomas Sowell’s dichotomy of visions: Thomas Sowell suggests that people have two different basic beliefs: whether human beings have the limit of potential capacity. Therefore, people establish their moral view based on their own assumption of human being’s capacity. He concludes that “constrained” idea leads to the conservatives who focus more on individual happiness, while the liberals who value social harmony are inclined to believe people are unconstrained. The framework can describe some of my views, but contradict with my opinion of the government, which are the “locus of discretion” and “mode of discretion”.…

There is a revolution occurring in America. This revolution is not fought with guns or swords but rather with information. The enemy is misinformation and how rapidly it spreads is only the start of the problem. The American society has steadily shaped its citizens into uncritical thinkers that accept any form of propaganda as truth, simply because it is on the internet or spoken by a well-known figure. As citizens of the United States of America we have a civil responsibility to seek education and acquire knowledge, then use that knowledge to educate others.…

One Out of Many by V.S. Naipaul and On Seeing England for the First Time by Jamaica Kincaid are two first person texts where the narrators are driven into an unknown world. While both narratives deal with changes and the consequences those changes enable, they each show radically different perspectives. Naipaul’s narrator, Santosh, struggles with the internal pressures he places on himself when he doesn’t feel as though he blends in with his new environment, while Kincaid’s narrative focuses on the external pressures and the struggle of fighting oppression in a society that has already succumbed to it. Perception is a concept, or a creation built on how each individual sees the world. When an idea becomes entwined with the realism of life,…

Discuss the interplay between how individuals perceive themselves and how they are perceived by others. In his film Gattaca Andrew Niccol explored this dichotomy of people’s thoughts of us and our thoughts on ourselves. We would like to pretend we do not care how others perceive us; however, we have all secretly yearned to fit in somewhere, be it at work, school or at social gatherings. The way in which we see ourselves is heavily influenced by other people’s perceptions of us.…

They will argue that to see is to believe, so reality and perception must be the same. However, to see and to believe are two different things and while they are related, they aren’t the same. To see is to believe, but to believe is not necessarily seeing. The assumption that perception and reality are the same can have very dangerous and, in retrospect, imbecile consequences. For example, if one was to believe that oneself was dead, they’d literally drop dead, right on the spot.…

Though he recognizes that we perceive the world around around us, he reduces this perception to passive reception of motion and contact. His only understanding of the senses is that particles of a certain shape, velocity and number come in contact with us. This is confused for two reasons. First, this would require each individual stimulus to have a specific recipe of shape, velocity, and number. This does not work because small amounts of a stimulus would then be sensed differently than large amounts of stimulus which is not the case.…

The matter of truth and perception are two concepts in which the definition changes depending on the individual. In the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the author Stephen R. Covey speaks of an experience at the Harvard business School where and instructor demonstrated how two people can have a different outlook, yet both be right. Two variations of the same picture were given to two sides of the classroom and asked what was seen, both sides had different answers. The students argued and neither side could come to an agreement that both arguments were correct; except for a few students who tried to see the alternate perspective.…

An adult watches a child's interpretation, as he maneuvers social norms by trial and error, with patience and often affectionate humor, all the while cheering him on because of his willingness to try! The humble experience of becoming like a child has the potential to transform our way of thinking and feeling and being - it can hold the power to allow us entry into another's world.…

I agree with the military saying as well about, “perception is reality.” Perception is vital in the workforce, the term person perception, is defined as “the perceptions people form about each other”, which links with the attribution theory (Robbins & Judge, 2009). Robbins & Judge explain that the attribution theory allows us to describe the ways in which we judge people differently, contingent on the importance we attribute to a given behavior. This theory suggests that we attempt to determine whether an individual’s behavior is externally or internally caused. I find myself applying this theory to my daily life.…

People learn a great deal from their experiences as they can change their entire outlook and attitude towards life as well as their communication with others. Perception directly effects communication and explains how the same message can be interpreted differently by people. The relationships we have with people through communication enable us to have similar perceptions of the world, however no two people can see the world in exactly the same way because of differences in their fields of experience. There are experiences that we share together such as, love, the instinct to survive, the desire for health, knowledge and happiness but each individual has events in life that make them experience these things differently. Perception is affected…
