There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception. is a quote by Aldous Huxley. Perceiving others is the nature of every human being. When I entered Great Lakes I looked around the people and had different perceptions on each of them. I am sure even they would have had some perception on me too. Every time I perceive others it will be mostly through some action of theirs and not just by their appearance, but even that can turn out to be different. But the most important thing is we need to be ready to change that perception once we come to know the real intentions behind their actions. My bag fell down and I was frowning and scolding him as he did not even apologize for his action and how ruder can he be. But only 2 seconds later I myself saw that he was rushing as a blind man was crossing the road while a vehicle was fast approaching him. I realized that I was too quick in judging others without looking from their perspective. We face such situations every day at work, college, home everywhere. On my first day to work, my fellow team mates had different perceptions just by looking at me. As I was wearing a salwar they thought I was from an orthodox family and just by my walk few had a perception that I had so much attitude and the list goes on and on. But when I actually started interacting and working with them they used to say, hey, you know we thought you were like this that but you seem the other way. this phrase was introduced to me by my class teacher in 8th standard. I had Glossophobia- fear of public speaking during my schooling .at that time teachers are our great motivators in life. They can really mould you and at the same make you ready to fit into any mould. She inculcated the habit of reading and always motivated her students. She being a cancer survivor, her story really inspires me even till date. Inspiration on a person doesn’t come that easily. She identified that I lacked speaking skills and she would put me in all competitions. I never used to get even a consolidation prize. She later gave me Bharatiyar’s books to read. Subramani Bharatiyar is a social reformer and a famous poet and journalist. Every day I used to practice his poems and recite to her. She herself was glossophobic and inspired me with her on how she overcame it. She also advised me to motivate others who faced similar problems. She sowed good habits and today I am able to reap its benefits. It is important to keep us inspired and focus towards our
