Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by businesses to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce, their families, local communities, and society at large. CSR is a concept with many definitions and practices. The way it is understood and implemented differs greatly for each company and country. Moreover, CSR is a very broad concept that addresses many and various topics such as; human rights, corporate governance, health, safety, environmental effects, working conditions, and economic development. However, the main purpose of CSR is to drive change towards sustainability. At PepsiCo, sustainable farming is a major focus. The project secures social media tools to empower communities to support projects that benefit social and environmental causes. This is made possible by supporting organizations with cash donations. Pepsi looks for businesses, people, and non-profit organizations with ideas that will have a positive impact. Project Refresh also allowed the company to set up a campaign which helped donate million of dollars to the families affected by the BP spill in 2010. Grants were also given to causes such as; providing injured Gulf coast sea turtles and other animals with shelter and health services, providing shelter to families who lost their homes due to the spill, and creating jobs for oil spill victims.
