All in all, the Peoples Temple and the Branch Davidians share qualities of a stereotypical cult. Jim Jones and David Koresh were charismatic leaders and cultivated a communal organization by blurring familial relationships by fathering children with many different sexual partners. They both had their critics who were concerned about abuse and the possibility of mass suicide. Additionally, both men had their views on the apocalypse and how and why it would happen. The massacre at Jonestown and the Waco siege are complicated events that received massive amounts of media attention.
