Jay Wilds, who was a friend of Adnan’s, took a plea deal and told the police that Adnan showed him Hae’s body in the trunk of her car at the local Best Buy. He also confessed to helping Adnan ditch Hae’s car at the Interstate 70 Park and Ride and assisting in the burying of Hae’s body (Chivvis, 2014). He led the police to Hae’s car and once it was located Adnan was arrested. On February 25, 2000, Adnan was convicted of first-degree murder and on June 6, 2000, he was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years (Chivvis, 2014).
Evidence and Arguments Supporting the Conviction Although there was no forensic evidence pointing to Adnan Syed, the prosecutor in this case painted Adnan Syed as a maniacal individual with dual personalities who was upset about the breakup he had with his girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. Kevin Urick was the lead prosecutor in this case and referred to it as a domestic violence murder. Typically, domestic violence is defined as abusive behavior in a relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power or control over the other.
