Despite the belief that the mental benefits of running overreach the physical benefits, there are many physical benefits as well. One of the greatest physical benefits would be the overall improvement of health. Although this may sound very basic, it is not. There are many attributes that contribute to overall health. “Studies have shown that running can help prevent obesity, type two diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, some cancers, and a host of other unpleasant conditions” (Allen). “Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts overall mood” (Robinson, Segal, Smith). Social benefits fit right in with mental benefits because when running, whether it be alone or with a partner, it allows one to escape from this fast pace world.
