Louis, comes from multiple things, but right now the mainstream media is playing a huge role in it. I am one who has always believed that racism is a learned behavior, it is not something that one is born with. The mainstream media is painting a negative picture of the St. Louis black community for the unfamiliar individuals to see. A lot of the stories that are played on the 9:00 news circle around the negative things that are happening within the city of St. Louis. There are not many stories on a daily basis discussed, while standing outside of St. Louis County Jail, about the multiple arrest that were made that night in that area. During the Mike Brown situation, in Ferguson, Missouri, the media displayed most of the night rioting instead of discussing the peaceful protesting and conversations that were being held during the day. I cannot say that I have experienced a white woman clench her purse when I walk by or even experience a white American call me a nigger. The racial tension that I receive comes from the fear I see in other race face when they see me. While being a 250-pound black male with tattoos and a beard, I would experience individual ensuring not to make eye contact with me. I would experience people not really trying to continue conversations with me while distancing
