The Pentagon Budget and Jobs: How does defense spending rate for job creation?

• Although military budget cuts will lead to jobs losses in some way, the percentage of job losses will be higher if the budget cut rather occurs in nonmilitary programs. For example, a study in the state of Massachusetts found that if federal funds are shifted from military expenditure to nonmilitary programs such as in the health care, education, energy, and construction about 27% to 134% more jobs would be created.
• Defense should not be construed as a job creation program
