Penn State Scandal Essay

Even though both universities are involved in sexual assault scandals, when comparing both Penn State and Baylor university's cases I came to the conclusion that there should be a difference in disciplinary action. Reviewing Penn State scandal, on November 4, 2011, a grand jury report was released containing testimony that former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abused eight young boys over a period of at least 15 years. On July 23, 2012, The NCAA announces a $60 million fine against Penn State and bans the team from the post season for four years. Additionally, the school must vacate all wins from 1998-2011, and will lose 20 football scholarships a year for four seasons. It is unfair that the victims had ,for many year, been ignored by the school and the law, but the action taken by NCAA at the time were over the line. The problem here is that the punishment would also affect the students. Which are not at fault and fall victim to the schools adversity. September 8, 2014 - NCAA ends the Nittany Lions' post season ban and scholarship limits. The $60 million fine and the 13 years of vacated wins for renowned …show more content…
At Baylor, the majority of sexual assaults were done by the football Players, the article also mentions that its not the fist time Baylor has been involved in athletic department scandals. The staff member are at fault for not noticing or reporting such actions made by students. All staff involved in this case should be fired since they have failed to maintain a healthy educational environment. I do hope the right decisions are made and do not affect the innocent as it did with Penn State, but taking 20 football scholarships a year for four season would be, in my opinion, a well-deserved punishment for the football team at

As the athletic director, I have decided to utilize the “SLEEPE” Principle in order to review the situation to ensure the best decision is made in regards to the University of Kentucky. With all due respect, I believe that the NCAA’S is not being morally justifiable under any circumstance. The National Collegiate Athletic Association earns numerous amounts of money through private businesses deals. It is such a shame how “wealthy” committees cannot even assist to pay student athletes towards their tuition, or at least their medical bills. The college athletes should have the right to get some sort of compensatory money for playing for their school. For instance, like some students have work-study by applying through their financial aid.…
