What is a penile inversion technique? Vaginoplasty. Penile inversion vaginoplasty is a MTF surgical procedure in which the male genitalia is reconstructed into that of a female's. In the penile inversion vaginoplasty the testicles are removed (orchiectomy) and the scrotal skin is used to make labia majora (labiaplasty). Historically the very first procedure was om perform on an patient by the name of Lilie Elbe whom was a stage performer and poet, who unfortnnary died of complication from her surgical sex change. Ms. Elbe’s surgery was executed in, ironically, Nazi Berlin in 1933 and was the culmination of two decades of Transgender research in Berlin, the effective birthplace of the modern Transgender movement. Drs. Steinach and Hirschfeld began transgender research in Berlin in the early 1910’s, experimenting with animal castration, gonadal transplantation and elucidation of the chemical composition of sex hormones. Their early research enabled the eventual discovery of DES, the world’s first synthetic estrogen. Following Hitler’s selective destruction of Dr. Hirschfeld’s research laboratory early in 1933, just 3 months after Hitler was installed as German Chancellor, a young Psychiatrist by the name of Harry Benjamin immigrated to the US.
