Beginning with the discovery of Penicillin, the medicine wasn’t created on purpose it was merely an accident. Scientist Alexander Fleming went on vacation leaving a mess; when he came back a moldy petri dish caught his eye. “ Fleming saw a ring around the mold. After experimentation, he found the ring to be bacteria free.” (Lane, Source 1) Fleming was expecting to come back to a dirty laboratory; instead he came back to a groundbreaking discovery. Fleming’s left over experiment had been affected by the the air in other floors of the building which caused it to be full of bacteria; making this ring of mold different from the others. This was a “rare spore”(Source 1) in science during the …show more content…
Dr. Howard Florey and Norman Heatley made it their job to figure out how to take Fleming’s finding and expand the medicine’s amount. “Florey and Heatley had succeeded in increasing the yields of penicillin 10 times.” (Source 2) The two scientists took the small quantity of medicine and found a way to grow it’s size. Andrew J. Moyer then studied to use Penicillin to help cure infections. Making Penicillin “the most effective antibacterial agent to date.” (Source 2)Fleming, Heatley, and Moyer made Penicillin a medicine we use in the 21st century to prevent sickness. From then on, Penicillin was used in World War II and saved “many lives.” (Source 3) ” To sum up, it took many scientists to develop the drug we know and use 90 years
