“Praying” by Ke$ha talks about coming to terms with abuse and trauma, as well as sending a powerful message on July 8, 2017. The track came from singer and songwriter Ryan Lewis, he contacted Ke$ha and offered her the song. The song was written by Ben Abraham, Andrew Joselyn, and its producer, Lewis. The song at first was a gospel and soul-influenced pop piano ballad that features minimal production and accompaniment from violins, violas, strings, celli, backing vocals and drums. Ke$ha was inspired by suicidal thoughts she has had in the past, she said praying is about hoping that people can heal. The song was written to showcase the singer’s vocal range and to represent her as a person, and also features her nearly screaming at the top of …show more content…
Luke) did to her. He “Put her through hell,” but because of that, she “Had to learn how to fight for herself” and be a stronger, better version of herself. Before she was pushed around, but she feels more confident now. She has proved the strength that she has now (even strength over him) when she sings, “And we both know all the truth I could tell” truth that we assume make Dr. Luke look evil. But shows her power in her restraint and instead decides to just say one more thing as she tells him “farewell.” In the chorus of “Praying,” ke$ha tells the “you” that she hopes he’s “somewhere praying” and that his “soul is changing” as he becomes a better version of himself. But she doesn't want him to change, she also wishes “peace” on him, but seems pretty set on it happening only if he’s “falling on his knees praying.” I believe that ke$ha doesn’t want him to change because she feels like even if he does change he will still be the same person he always has been. I also believe ke$ha believes he will find peace if he is in a terrible situation like she was. People ask who is he supposed to be praying to? It’s not clear but seems to want him to pray to the same entity she prays to. In her open letter ke$ha says, “For me, God is not a bearded man sitting in the clouds or a judgmental, homophobic tyrant waiting to send everyone to eternal damnation. Go dis nature and space and energy and the universe. My own …show more content…
For instance, when she says “Told me that I was nothing without you,” one of my ex’s told me that I would be nothing without him in my life and now he’s out of my life and I am becoming more open and controlling of my life. Also when Ke$ha sings, “’Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell,” I thought of one of my friends I used to have and I am starting to slowly let back into my life. My friend would call me names, ask me for help, use me, and much more. So one day I talked to my best friend about it and she helping me to come to a decision to cut her out of my life for awhile and maybe one day in the future, she will prove to you that she needs you in her life and that you can trust her. Another view of the song I have is when she sings, “I’m proud of who I am/ No more monsters, I can breathe again.” I relate to this because I am proud of who I am now and I have no more people dragging me down telling me I can’t do something or be

The social and political system in the United States of America unquestionably revolves around white supremacy and misogyny. Many pop culture icons have attempted to make a change, but none have seemed to have done it quite like Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The pop icon released her album, Lemonade, in April of 2016, which lyrically and visually shows themes of different social issues such as racism and the treatment of women. Beyoncé combines the two together and explicitly discusses the injustices faced among African-American women, which can be heard and seen in the visuals during songs like “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Freedom”. Beyoncé takes her personal life, expands it, and leads it into the illustration of the struggle black women face across the United States.…

This song allows me to visualize the flood that happened and see the devastation that it caused. "When it thunders and lightnin' and the wing begins to blow" Two lines in the lyrics that got to me was, "There's thousands of people ain't got no place to go", and "Cause my house fell down and I can't live there no more." Her voice is very emotional and genuine. You can feel the sorrow that she is trying to express. I prefer the Kenny Wayne version for general listening as if I would add it to my music playlist besides the Bessie Smith version.…

If my life was a television show or a movie, the theme song I would chose would be “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. I chose this song because I feel like it best describes my attitude towards life and situations. The first impression I would want the audience to make about me would be that I have a happy spirit and I try to always stay positive and not let things bother me. I want people to see that although bad things can happen, it’s your attitude that gets you through and makes it better. I always say, the better the attitude, the better the situation.…

Throughout history there have been many examples of gender inequality and male dominance. For years, women have been dominated by their male counterparts. They have experienced heartbreak and vulnerability as a result of control and power from their significant others. Eventually, in the 19th century a revolution took place and women got the right to vote, they joined the workforce and overall became more independent. As feminism grew throughout Western society in the 21st century, women felt empowered, more self-confident and on the same playing field as men.…
