Butts and Rich (2015) indicated that Pender’s Health Promotion Model (HPM) fittingly places the person as the main emphasis of the model and includes the extended social members who influence the individual’s life. The model describes the term “person” as the result of the genetic factors that are then shaped by the surroundings the individual is exposed to and results in a distinct individual. The nurse interacts with the client in promoting positive health that requires modifications of the barriers that contribute to the harmful habits that impede the client's health promotion. Pender indicated that nurses are in pivotal positions to encourage communities to become proactive in eliminating adverse health factors and thus improve the overall health and wellbeing of their citizens.
