However, we should consider ourselves fortunate enough to live at a time when the advances in medicine have been outpacing the pathologies that plaque the civilization. Amongst all the specialties in medicine, I believe, family medicine is at the forefront, in the fight against diseases. By working in small towns and underserved areas the family practioner not only has the privilege of treating diseases at the infancy, but also has the huge responsibility of helping prevent spread of diseases in large scale. Thus family practioners stand as the first line of defense against deadly illnesses such as the likes Ebola, HIV and Dengue.
