Pele is an extraordinary soccer player. The best that has ever lived, and the best that will ever live. He is the Michael Jordan of soccer, or the Vince Lombardi. He was born on October 23, 1940 in Santos. Brazil. Pele grew up playing soccer in his neighborhood with his friends and they called themselves “The Shoeless Ones.” At the age of 15 he began playing for the Brazil International Soccer Team, as their striker. It took a few months for him to get in some games but once he was on the field, the fans were in awe of what he could do with a ball and his feet. Pele was the youngest to ever join an International Soccer team. After 2 years he won his first World Cup. They defeated sweden 5-2. In a total of 1,363 he scored 1,281 times. One of his best seasons was in 1958 when he scored 139 times, and also one his first World Cup, all at the age of 17. Pele not only did amazing things on the field, but off it too. He wrote a total of 3 biographies and composed music to the film Pele. Pele was also mentioned in a short scene in the movie Vision Quest. The best selling out of all of these was Pele. This amazing man also has 7 children, whose names are Edson Cholbi Nascimento, Kelly Cristina Nascimento, Celeste Nascimento, Jennifer Nascimento, Sandra Regina Arantes do Nascimento, and Joshua Nascimento. But back to soccer, he won a total of 4 National Tournaments. When Pele and Garrincha, another legend in the game of soccer, played together they never lost a game. Pele is also still apart of a number of FIFA games, he is considered a legend and is one of the most decorated players. Pele has helped raise millions and millions of charitable causes including Great Ormond Street, and Harlem Soccer.
