Peg Arm Monologue

Superior Essays
I miss Peg-Arm, who ruled with an iron fist. Literally. He was the reason I am where I am, but he was a skilled pirate. I feel bad that I only knew him for a short time. But that doesn’t matter anymore. I can’t change the past. Just floating in my dinghy now. Attempting to find land before another storm hits. Almost ended up like Peg-Arm when my dinghy flipped over. I don’t know where I am, or whether or not I’ll have enough food. All I’ve had to eat in the past 2 days has been a turtle that swam up to the surface. It’s getting dark outside and I can’t spot any land. I’ll get some rest in this uncommon moment of peace. Tonight I dream of shouting men and splashes in the water. Then cheering, and the closing of bars. I wake up, dreary eyed, …show more content…
I look up and see bars. Is this some kind of prison? The sun glimmers through, creating uniform shadows below me. “Hello?” I call out, “Is anyone out there?” No one responds but the quiet screaming in my ears. It seems that I am stuck in this damp hole for a while longer. Seaweed hangs from the bars, still wet. On the wall are marks, like tallied scratches. Someone must have been in here before me. There still lies a bone in the corner, bored from its many years left alone. The bars above me are rusting away and one is about to break. Reaching up, I hear yelling and stamping feet. Figuring I have time, I pull down on the bar, with great effect. It snaps in half, making too much noise for my taste. Stretching all of the muscles in my body, I get both arms on one of the bars. The sounds are getting closer. My arms are twitching, but I am halfway up now. Grunting, I grapple for a jut out of the floor and succeed. Pulling myself up, I finally realize where I am. It’s a ship, as basic as one of the pirate variety can be. There was a lower deck at the front of the ship, with what looks like the nose of a swordfish at its point. Two poles stick out of the middle of the deck, each with its own respective decorated flag. On the second pole was a ladder and a lookout point at the top. Behind this bottom deck was a higher deck, where I assume the captains bunk is. Above that, is the steering deck. I can now hear loud …show more content…
Every time it is looking away, I run to another spot. Barnabas trained him to viciously attack on sight. All of a sudden, I see a leg step out of the shadows. The ferret runs to him and jumps into his leg pocket. All you can see of him now is his head fur. I scurry up to my post and wait for him to walk up the second set of stairs. “Anyone out there?” he yells out in his now familiar, gruff voice. He stamps up to the upper deck. I am frozen in shock, just now realizing that my plan was to kill a man. A captain no less. The crewmates would kill me if they found out about this. I would have to plant a note, written by him of course, in his bed. He would declare me the next captain. Broken from my trance, I notice him leaving the upper deck. I launch the colossal rock over the deck. It crashes into the water, making a loud enough noise to alert him up to the deck. Barnabas trudges up, hoping to see someone in the water. As he is leaning over the edge, I jump down from my post, run over to him, and shove him in. It seems as if he is falling in slow motion to me. His whole body spreads as he shouts out my name. I hurry back to my bunk, trying not to think about killing a man. Killing the

Only the scent remains of the massacre. The fog on the beach softens the horizon and all the palm trees around me. Everything has a greenish tint to it, and I pull my blanket closer around me. Technically it's Alex's, but the blanket seems to have become mine slowly and now it's my home. Even though I don't think fish make sounds, I can hear their cry ringing out.…

I don’t think anyone else saw him because he was in the most unrealistic spot. He had somehow gotten up to the very top of a white pine tree, and he was literally watching us like a hawk. With his eyes peered and neck pivoting as fast as you can imagine. At the same time Da Beak seems to have one of those looks on his face, one of those looks that says I can’t wait till I’m through with you. I close my eyes and recap what is going on and the moment I open my eyes Da Beak is gone.…

It’s over, I beat them, and they won’t do anything to me anymore. BANG! The sound echoes in my ears as I feel a sharp pain rupture through me, I look down to see streaks of red bleeding down my white shirt. A cold, hard bullet penetrated into my chest, I cried out in anger and agony. I start to lose consciousness and saw a blurry figure standing above me, “Your deed is done,” then he disappeared into the night.…

    Gray Monologue

When I think about the old world, only in distant memories and muted daydreams, I mostly think about color. The urban world was dashed in eye-catching colors and neon lights. Nature was slightly more subdued; somewhat monochromatic, yet varied in understated tones of grey, brown, and green. Color is hard to come by, now, with the exception of flame and blood. Rampant fires and firestorms consumed forests and cities long ago, and everyday continue to demolish what was once taken for granted.…

It is never ending, it has sounded from the beginning of time and will continue long after I have perished and crumbled in my crouched position. Ages pass and I remain on the ground, hands covering my ears, eyes screwed shut, teeth grinding and body shivering. Then all at once, the noise ceases, like it’s been switched off. It is absolute in its absence, so much so that it’s hard to believe this place ever made a sound. As the seconds tick by, I begin to doubt myself; I feel the memories of the sound slipping out of my mind until I can no longer remember the quality of the sound, if there was…

Despite the horror inside me, I continue to walk unconfidently down the dock.…
