Essay On Becoming A Peer Mentor

I cannot imagine that time has flown so fast. It seems like yesterday when I was first hired in summer quarter to be a Peer Mentor. I used to have a lot of imagination about what it would be, and how I would react with my mentees when I officially become a Peer Mentor. This is also my first time to be a Peer Mentor, so I got super excited. However, everything is not like what it seems. When I first received my cohort assignment email said that I would be a Peer Mentor for IESL level 1 and 2, I honestly got a little bit panic. I acknowledge that it might be hard for me to communicate with my future mentees since their English is still improving; especially, it would be more difficult if I have mentees whose first language is different from mine. Time management is one of the significant concepts. I have learned how to manage and how to organize between work and study proficiently. I currently enroll in four classes, which exceeds up to twenty-one credits. I do have a lot of homework; plus, tests are almost every week. Nonetheless, as a perfectionist and a responsible individual, I try to accomplish every task in order of importance and on time. As a result, being a Peer Mentor does help me a lot with building my management skills. Moreover, being a Peer Mentor is also my opportunity to learn from other people. In other words, I have learned how to think outside of the box effectively and how to cooperate the best in teamwork. For instance, during my planning sheet meeting, I have observed many brilliant ideas and plans from fellow experienced peer mentors. Before being a Peer Mentor, I used to have great confidence in dealing and operating activities for others.
