Therefore, many students with ASD are removed from the general education classrooms and placed in special education classrooms. Throughout the years, there have been many interventions put in place to help eliminate disruptive or off- task behaviors and have had successful. A few of the interventions that were mentioned in the article are positive reinforcement, visual schedules, self-monitoring and Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR). However, all of these interventions are implemented by the teacher, or another adult. This research study addresses the notion of using peers to implement interventions. Some of the benefits that are mentioned in the article are that peers are always around the student, as opposed to the one teacher or adult only being available for certain parts of the day. A second benefit to using peers is the idea of peer pressure. Children look to see what others are doing, and what to be a part of the social norm, therefore, students will follow the lead of other students. A third benefit that is mentions is teacher time.
