1. What criteria do you consider to be of more importance? Ideas, proper English grammar or both? Support your answer. The criteria I consider to be of most importance are both ideas and proper English grammar. With improper English grammar, an idea might never be expressed as intended, leaving an idea of great merit as misunderstood and of little value. While perfect English grammar would convey an idea with great success in understanding, the idea itself would have to have some importance to be considered worthwhile. This quote pretty much says it all, “When you speak, you project your level of intelligence and thoughtfulness” (Adam, 2012).

When preparing my peer assessment, I read the submission, then read the criteria for grading, and finally reread the submitted assignment, going from 1 grading criteria to the next. I ensure the grading criteria are met, and read the paper with a questioning attitude. When assessing my peers, I look forward to learning from their way of writing, their ideas, their culture which is so different than my own. The feedback I give is based solely on the assignment being assessed. I will give sound advice if I am able to add insight toward future learning. The biggest help I would add this early into a course is to use paperrater.com to check for plagiarism, bad grammar, and spelling mistakes (grammar check, nd).
3. Referring to this week's Learning Guide, design what you consider to be the most effective way of assessing learning. Please make reference to popular attitudes towards assessment specific to your country. I believe the most effective way of assessing learning is being able to add to the subject in a creative manner. Bringing new insight and a different way of looking at the same subject in a critical thinking brainstorm.
