Pedophilia Until The 1900's

Pedophilia was not termed until the 1900’s, when psychiatrist Von Kraft Ebbing encountered it, and explained each meeting in writing. Pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder where an adult is solely sexually attracted to children under the age of eleven. In society pedophiles are seen to be among the lowest of degenerates. They are ostracized and incarcerated, where they most often encounter even more horrifying consequences at the hands of their criminal peers. Unfortunately, many rapes including both children and adults go unreported. The stigma that society places on all victims alike renders them powerless in most cases. The very sad and disturbing reality is that rape is a worldwide issue where victims are not given a voice and are left to …show more content…
For certain registered sex offenders that are freed from prisons, Antiandrogen medicine such as Depo-Provera is injected into the testicles and disables them to avoid recidivism. (Wikipedia contributors. "Antiandrogen." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, 21 Sep. 2015. Web. 5 Dec. 2015). “According to the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, when treating child molesters, "anti-androgen treatment should be coupled with appropriate monitoring and counseling within a comprehensive treatment plan.”(Wikipedia contributors. "Pedophilia." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, 2 Nov. 2015. Web. 5 Dec. 2015). Historically, male gonads were detached to achieve a reduced libido. This process is called surgical castration, and is still used in some places. (Wikipedia contributors. "Chemical castration." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, 3 Dec. 2015. Web. 6 Dec. 2015). With all the treatments I listed, Antiandrogens are the most reasonable, and less invasive. In all the articles I have read about Antiandrogens, or with most treatments for pedophilia none have been found to prevent recurrences, or prevent people acting on their …show more content…
The one however that relates to the assumption that the unregulated male hormone drives men to rape is the Control Theory. This theory is propositioned on the basis of losing control. The need to force their will on the victim is the causation. Their need to release their sexual desires whether consented too or not. Whether the rape is seen as violent or not, the consent is not given which causes the assailant to lose that control and in turn rape and act of control. (Module 4: The Guises of Rape). NO means NO is something that has now become part of teaching men to control those urges. Teaching them that it is not okay to will themselves into sex. That sex must be consensual and all other means of getting sex is rape. This has drawn a clear line. It has made rape a black and white issue where the gray now only exists in the mentality of the rapist and the legal

In 2015, almost 58,000 children were sexually abused, but countless of children never reported (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services et al. 44). In The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, there was a segment where a child was sexually abused by a kin. The young girl, Deborah Lacks, was sitting in the car with Galen, her cousin, who touched her inappropriately, but she did not know how to react. Galen would "grab [her] in the backseat, forcing his hands under her shirt, in her pants, [and] between her legs" (Skloot 113). Deborah believed her clothing was making it easy for Galen to touch her, so, she "swore she'd never wear another pair of jeans with snaps instead of zippers again" (Skloot 113).…

Rape: Nature or Nurture? Women are overrepresented in the rape victim pool. Men can be victims of rape as well, but rape mainly effects women (Miller 383). This leads theorists to the question: what is different in males that causes them to rape far more often than females? Often, the answer stems from either a nature or nurture standpoint.…

Anyone can be a victim or predator no matter their age, race, or even religion. “Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse that includes sexual activity with a minor. When a perpetrator engages with a child this way, they are committing a crime that can have lasting effects on the victim for years” (“Child Sexual Abuse”).…

In my opinion, sex offenses do receive special attention in the criminal justice system. I believe this because of laws that have been implemented in recent years that focus specifically on sex offenders, the way the public and larger community perceive them as a unique group, and the growing apprehension of the group due to the severe impact sex crimes have. The first reason I believe that sex offenses receive special attention is because of the strict laws and policies that have demonstrable consequences to those that commit them. An example is the introduction of the SVP legislation, "an SVP is defined as any person who has been convicted of or charged with a sexually violent offense and who suffers from a mental abnormality or personality…

Paraphilic disorders are described as “sexual deviation syndromes characterized by aberrant sexual fantasies, urges, and /or behaviors” (Saleh & Berlin, 2003). There is a difference from those who have unusual sexual fantasies and/or desires while engaging in healthy sexual activities with a partner and those who are diagnosed with paraphilic disorder. Those who act upon their fantasies in a way that causes harm to themselves and others are diagnosed with paraphilic disorders. For example, someone who is diagnosed with a paraphilic disorder may participate in “exhibitionism, fetishism, frotteurism, pedophilia, or even voyeurism” to name just a few subtypes of this disorder (Kearney & Trull, 2015, pp. 337-343).…

If hormones regulate sexual desire, should male or female sexual predators’ hormone levels be altered by surgery or hormone reducing drugs? Yes, however, this should not be considered as a resolution to placing them back in society. Because, these surgeries and or hormone reducing drugs are “not a completely effective treatment for sex offender” (Crooks& Baur, 2017, p. 165). Not all sexual predators get their sexual arousal from committing sexual acts against their victim. Some predators release sexual pleasure by anger and violence and having power and control over their victims.…

A specific problem that faces that criminal justice system is child exploitation in the age of technology. Child exploitation is a crime that has existed for millennia, but since technology has developed, the crime has grown exponentially. Traditionally a predator would have to target a family member or someone in the community as their pool of targets was relatively limited. However, the advancement of technology has made it easier for predators to not only collect and share paraphernalia, but it has also created a new pool of potential victims. To begin with, the definition of child pornography must be understood so the extent of how technology can contribute to its production can be understood.…

All types of rape lead to the same outcome, which the victims fear in something if not everything. Clearly what angers the rape lobby (and the rest of us) is that a lot of men get away with rape, either because women can’t or don’t report it, or because the courts can’t or don’t prove it. It is also true…
