Is It Safe To Go To A Pedicure Spa? For the Science Fair, my question will be, “Is it safe to go to pedicure spas?”. To answer my question, I will test the bacteria levels at pedicure stations in local salons. I will get permission from the salons where I plan to obtain the samples and identify them only as anonymous sources. I will go to local business establishments and collect samples from the pedicure stations using materials such as petri dishes, sterilized swabs and other research materials. Microorganisms are living, single celled organisms. Statistically, there is a total of nearly 5 nonillion microorganisms in the world. These organisms are too small to be seen without a microscope. Microorganisms include things such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, algae, worms and Protozoa. Microorganisms are living everywhere throughout our world, they allow nature to run its course. Positive microorganisms help our earth to keep our bodies of water clean, protect us from illness and decompose the old material we do not need here on earth. Most people get their negativity from the diseases in which bacteria causes. Bacteria can attack chemicals or tissue being released in plants and animals which will cause damage to the organisms. These plants which have bacteria on them are our source of food and we could become very sick if they were not properly prepared. Our food is sanitized through a process called pasteurization to kill bacteria. Bacteria can also live on our skin, but do not hurt us because they cannot get through our outer skin layer to our bloodstream to get in our system.
