Pediatrician Personal Statement

I had treated my first patient at the age of 4. My great-grandmother, who was starting to get sick because of old age, was my first patient in my pretend preschool hospital. My second patient was my little cousin whom was getting very sick at such a young age. He was diagnosed 2 years ago with aplastic anemia. He spent a year and a half at Seattle Children’s Hospital. I’ve given them both medications after medications. I’ve done everything in my power to make them both feel better. Everyday we ended better than the start of the day! My third patient was my junior year in high school during medical school when I was legally allowed to help the sick. After that, I knew I had found my passion. I will become a pediatrician and I will be great at it. The idea of identifying a problem, coming up with a solution, and then applying technical skill to immediately benefit others is what drew me to becoming a doctor in the first place. It is the sense of satisfaction that drives me to pursue a career in being a pediatrician. I am confident in my abilities to train as a pediatrician. This further solidified my interest in becoming a pediatrician. I was able to sit and focus on my work, not realizing how much time was passing. This illustrates …show more content…
During the little amount of medical school I have taken so far, I became fascinated with it. I knew from the moment that I made my first impression on the patient’s that I would enjoy working with my hands, practicing with both my family and at school. It was only a question of what kind. During my schooling, I kept an open mind about other specialties and looked at all of them from different perspectives but being a pediatrician is the one I had most interest in. It was the one thing I enjoyed above all others.
