The study of medicine is a whole new world filled with mysteries. Its complexity cannot be described in a few words. Science has always been a captivating subject to me. My curiosity for science grew when I began to learn about biology. In biology class, I enjoy learning about how cells work and genetics. My favorite subject has been biology ever since. I am a self-motivated person. Some motivating factors are my role models, their achievements, and recognition from peers. They inspire me to pursue my dreams and accomplish many goals. They also advised me that if I am determined in what I’m achieving then I can do it.
After completing high school, I hope to go to a college or university. Then continue on to a medical school in order to become a pediatrician. I have always known that I would like to be a part of the medical field because my mother had diabetes and my grandmother had stomach cancer. My desire to become a pediatrician grew when my second cousin was diagnosed with autism. Seeing him struggling to communicate his feelings and the result of frustration really upsets me. Another reason is that I enjoy being around children. Therefore, in my spare time, I often volunteer at an after-school program called Sunrise. My aspiration in life is to become a person who can make a positive difference in the community or make a change in someone's life.
This program attracts me because I enjoy taking challenging, rigorous course. In addition, I am quite shy so this is a splendid opportunity to interact with people. During the Summer Mentorship Program, I hope to expand my knowledge in the medical field and acquire more experiences.
