Pediatric Oncology Nurse Scholarship Essay

I have known since the beginning of high school that I wanted to major in nursing in college. At first, I figured I would go to a larger school where the nursing program does not start until students enter their junior year, however, after I was exposed to the nursing profession through volunteering at St. Louis Children's Hospital, I decided I couldn't wait to get started. I learned how much compassion and wisdom nurses carried with them, and I realized that I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. This thought is what initially drew me into Truman State University, as I loved the idea of entering the nursing program my very first semester on campus. I am certain Truman will prepare me to achieve my career goal of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse. Hopefully I will be able to work at St. Louis Children's Hospital, where I can continue dedicating my time to helping …show more content…
I shortly realized that is the kind of positive impact I want to be able to make for someone every single day. Although it will be a couple of years before I am able to achieve this goal, the thought of all of the possibilities my future has in store for me will encourage me to achieve my personal goal while I attend Truman. My goal is to become very involved around campus. I plan on joining intramural and clubs, and possibly studying abroad, while still maintaining good grades. As much as I want to leave a positive impact on children when I become a nurse, I want to be able to make the same impact on Truman during my four years. This scholarship will help my family and I tremendously, as it will ease the stress of balancing school, work, and financials. Nursing school is definitely going to be a new challenge, and I hope this scholarship will allow me to stay focused on my schoolwork as much as possible. Thank you for considering me for the Alumni Chapter
