Pediatric Oncology Nurse Research Paper

I have personally decided to pursue an education in nursing, because it has been my lifelong dream ever since I was a little girl. My mother was an amazing nurse, and has always been my biggest hero. She raised three children all on her own, and created an amazing life for all of us. I am praying that I am allowed to follow in her footsteps as I raise two boys of my own. My biggest dream is to become a pediatric oncology nurse, and to help the families and patients that are living the nightmare that cancer brings with it. I have lost several of my loved ones to the devastating battle against cancer. Three years ago, I was sitting in a hospital room with my aunt by my side, as she received fluids intravenously. She had been extremely dehydrated that day due to her constant vomiting and nausea, and her hospice nurse told me to take her in immediately. We were in that cold room for almost 8 hours, and not one nurse came by to check on her. I went to find her a warm blanket to cover her up with, and ice chips to wet her incredibly dry mouth. She looked at me that day with such appreciation in her eyes, and I lost her to the vicious battle of ovarian cancer one week later. …show more content…
I was fortunate enough to be able to care for her during those 2 months, and keep her as comfortable as possible. She passed away 2 months after her diagnoses, and God gained another remarkable angel that day. I am now currently watching my best friend’s 8 year old daughter battle lymphoma. It is indescribable to explain how hard it is to watch a child fight such a ruthless disease. I truly believe that God is guiding me along this journey to become a pediatric oncology nurse, so that I can be a positive part of these precious children’s
