I can see that my CI utilized client-centered practice by using therapeutic use of self, and switching from instructing to collaborating mode to engage the client in the feeding treatment. But I wonder if the treatment is really beneficial to the client. The client learns a new behavior either at home or at the clinic: he was reward for unwanted behavior. I feel that field work provides me with a dose of reality: a screaming, kicking child who does not understand about balanced diet, and you have to work with the child to improve his or her diet to meet parents’ expectation of positive occupational therapy outcome.
