As a pediatric nurse, parents are relying on the nurse to care for their kid. The responsibility of someone else’s kid is in the nurse’s hands. Studies have shown pediatric nurses endure “burnout in relation to increased mortality, failure to rescue, and patient dissatisfaction” (Jennings). These type of emotions can develop in any branch of nursing from newborns to elders. Although it is much more emotional when a newborn baby or toddler is on the verge of death than a grandparent who is close to ninety years old. Parental overprotectiveness can relate to the main amount of stress a pediatric nurse has to encounter (Greenwood). Often times parents develop stress when their child is ill.
