Pediatric Neurosurgeon Case Study

The body of my criteria was weighted on the areas I felt were most important. My

categories were salary, hours, educational requirements, passion, benefits, flexibility, location

and job outlook. Categories that meant the most to me were salary and education requirements;

because those are the two deciding factors in my career choice. Though some consider passion

important; I feel is it needed, not mandatory. This idea is present in my matrix. I feel that

categories such as passion and location are not that important because I am willing to move

anywhere, and I could learn to love a job as many do. Pediatric Neurosurgery scored the highest

I unsurprisingly got the results I hoped for. I have already looked into the

specifics of this career before, and the other two were backup careers. The data and research

show that a Pediatric Neurosurgeon is the best career for me. The graph explains my criteria

the weight of the chosen careers. It precisely shows the personal importance of each category, in

context to my matrix.

Pediatric Neurosurgeon treat children’s “problems involving the head, spine, or nervous

system” (AAP). Ethical issues are very prominent in pediatric surgery. “Pediatric surgeons are

often confronted with clinical situations that involve decisions about the continuation of life-

sustaining treatments for infants and children with critical illness”(BCN, DAC). The critical

situations need to be resolved in quick decisions that could impact a young child's life forever.

This issues regarding ethics and emerging technologies have the ability to change the world;

good or bad. And it is up to people to decide which. An individual in this career field should

keep up to date on new information, study the basics, and learn all diseases, conditions,

Emerging technology in this field comes out fairly frequently.

“Emerging technologies, such as nanotechnology, wearable electronics, brain-computer

interfaces, 3D printing, and others benefit from multidisciplinary approaches and cross-fertilization

among disciplines”(WF). Many of these technologies, impact countless parts of our

lives, which can enhance our quality of living. Brain-computer interfaces ” the possibility to

interact with computers through thought alone – in the field of cybersecurity as hackers could

easily find ways to use sensitive and critical data, hijack systems or manipulate devices”(WF).

The benefits include making their jobs easier and increasing their ability to problem solve, thus

making them more useful. When adding such a life-changing technology such as less one it comes

with cons. The limitations of the system include easy access to systems increases the

likelihood of being hacked. Also, there is more need for stronger security if systems like
