All public health planning requires a coalition of stakeholders to invest in the process of change. Patients look to their primary care provider (PCP) for guidance towards a healthier lifestyle, healing and support (Goold & Lipkin, 1999); therefore, it is not surprising when parents look to their children’s pediatrician on how to prepare for emergency disasters. Prior to the new initiative that uses a systems-based approach to increase community preparedness capability among healthcare providers , practitioners had little knowledge on the the role of public health in a crisis and were not fully equipped with resources needed to fully assist their patients during emergencies . However since the implementation of the initiative, providers are more knowledgeable on how to assist their patients and are able to provide care in community offices to offset the burden of hospitals (CDC, 2015). The success of this Pennsylvania initiative can be used as a standard for other
