Pedestrians, who are people who travel by foot, wheelchairs, or strollers are the most vulnerable of those who use roads. For this reason, they should be very well protected. A total of 4,735 pedestrians were killed in traffic deaths in 2013, 2 and more than 156,000 were treated in emergency departments for nonfatal injuries. According to Ames Police spokesperson Cmdr. Jason Tuttle, the accident happened at a crosswalk near the Iowa State campus at Beach Avenue and Lincoln Way. A woman was crossing the street there and a turning car side-swiped her.(Claire Powell, February, 2016) The woman who was hit by a car because the driver was on her phone at the same time she was turning the corner. The question was asked “should there be stop signs near or at all crosswalks on Ellsworth campus?”. Majority of the people agreed to while other didn’t, as I was going through the surveys many people who agreed also were people who live on campus. That goes to show the percentage of people who agreed really travel around campus and actually understand that this is a problem. The people who disagreed half were commutes and the other half live on campus. Another question that was asked was, whether or not they knew the traffic laws? 76% of the servers said yes they know the traffic laws, 23% of the rest of the servers said somewhat. With that being said as shown majority of the servers do know the traffic but the servers who did not know it seem to fall under the younger age group category. Age group was a question to see if the younger adult know and obey the law just as some of the mature servers who have been around longer and made mistakes that were lessons. Of course out of all of the questions on the survey the one question that everyone 100% agreed on was “do you know what a crosswalk is?”. The thought that maybe it would be a significant change in mindsets of servers staying on campus vs the servers who stay off campus. But that didn’t seem to happen there was no
