The artwork I choose is Pebbles around a Hole. The artist is Andy Goldsworthy. He was born in Britain in 1956. He created Pebbles around a Hole in 1987. The medium used is chromogenic print. The size is 65.5 x 67 cm. The location is unknown.
The subject matter is an eye. The black hole is the pupil and the colored rings around it are the colored parts of the eye. I see it as an eye looking at us while we do not know what could possibly be looking back at us. The eye could also be looking deep into our souls. Which is why the hole is completely dark. It could also be the eye of the universe. The hole in the center of the universe and it never ends. Which is another reason why the hole appears to be dark. The color contributes to the emphasis drawing eyes to the hole. The form is two dimensional photograph of a three dimensional sculpture. The scale of the photograph itself is smaller than the average human. If a human were to stand on top of the sculpture the human would be bigger. The size of the photograph could be carried but the sculpture could not be …show more content…
The implied lines of the pebbles helps create the shape. The negative space of the hole is what helps the artist create the circles around it. The pattern is the repetition of the pebbles going around in a circle. The shape helps the rhythm because of the repetition of the pebbles. The predominate light value is balanced between light and dark. The light value transitions are gently modulated. The contrast is created through value and color. The contrast of the dark hole and the white pebbles around it. The colors descending from dark to light and then back to the darkness of the hole. The darkness of the hole is emphasized because of the white pebbles around it. The texture is in the pebbles as well the dirt and sand it was created on. The texture of the pebbles are smooth. Space is created through color and value. The moderate changes in color towards the blackness of the hole. The sculpture itself has a sense of depth created from the appearance of the dark blue pebbles being higher than the white pebbles and the

Life & Death Through elaborate carving, casting, painting, and other technical processes, artists can ingeniously turn dead stone, metal, or plaster into vivid human-looking sculptures. George Segal’s Blue Women In a Black Chair, which was made in 1981, is a typical painted sculpture that reflects the core of human emotions. The Untitled large man accomplished by Tom Claassen in 1999, likewise, is another excellent reflective sculpture. Although these two are both outstanding pieces mirroring experiences in real life, they differ in materials, size, color, and body gesture in order to present different stage of human being, conveying different meanings.…

For this essay, the artwork chosen is titled Untitled, (I Shop Therefore I Am) by Barbara Kruger. This artwork was created in 1987 using the medium of film in order to capture the image. The subject for this artwork would be issue oriented based on the message displayed. This piece would also be considered to be abstract due to the message that is displayed in the photograph and how it makes itself look different. The artwork itself is what looks to be a reused photo for a previous advertisement many years ago, but the artist used a powerful message to cover up what was being advertised, and used the words “I shop therefore I am” in a giant red textbox with white lettering that is very clear to read when viewing the art up close.…
